Prime Hotel, Wangfujing
Street, Beijing This is my favorite hotel to stay in when visiting Bejing. It is classified as a five-star hotel, with a walk-in price of $200. But if you book this hotel with http://www.sinohotel.com, you can get a rate of $79 for a "superior" room. It's clean, the bathrooms are clean with good water pressure, and the beds have down pillows and duvets, with soft cotton covers, making it very comfortable. The staff are very pleasant and internationally trained. Breakfast is extra, but the breakfast buffet is discounted to hotel guests at about $6 per person for an international breakfast buffet which is one of the best I have experienced. Prime Hotel is on Wangfujing Street, in the heart of Beijing, walking distance to Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, and Wangfujing is an international shopping street. There is a food street nearby, with vendors offering some of the most interesting foods of the Beijing area. I have eaten there often and never got sick.

View from the Prime Hotel in Beijing. Many of the hutongs and small, interesting shops have been demolished to make way for growth of the city. Beijing is building more hotels to prepare for the 2008 Olympics. | |||||||||
Bamboo Garden Hotel (Tingsonglou) This hotel is a former courtyard Qing dynasty home that has been renovated as guest houses. The rooms are Chinese style, and the one I looked at had private bath. It is very peaceful, with winding corridors, lovely gardens, and of course, the bamboo. There is a restaurant for convenience. It is located near the Drum Tower, north of Forbidden City, Behai Lake. I would like to stay there on my next visit. Twin and double rooms are available. The room I looked at was a standard suite with a garden view RMB 600 (approximately $73).
