Qigong Class-What to Expect Qigong is ancient Chinese energy exercise, based on Daoism and Chinese medicine. The Chinese medicine theory of wellness is that your body qi (energy) must flow through the acupuncture meridians smoothly to keep your body, mind and spirit balanced. Qigong is somewhat different from tai chi. Tai chi is a form made up of different qigong movements. tai chi is "the ultimate" qigong exercise. Qigong is simple to learn, and does not require special attire or equipment. The class begins with a brief discussion of qi, and why qigong is so helpful for wellness. We start with warm up movements to get our qi flowing, and become aware of our body qi. Then you will learn how to find your "qi ball". The October qigong class with be "8 Brocades" classic qigong. These are gentle, slow movements that will move the qi through all the acupuncture meridians. 8 Brocades qigong is the most simple form for learn, and the least time consuming, so you can do the exercise in a short period of time. We often don't have time for longer routines in our daily life, and the 8 Brocades qigong easily fits in to a daily routine. The eight movements cultivate the physical qi. The internal qi is cultivated through a quiet form, a form of meditation. While sitting comfortably, you are guided through a series of breathing, and moving your qi internally. The end result is wellness, relaxation, and confidence. Read more about qigong, click here. |
