Reiki for Body, Mind and Spirit

Reiki is a Japanese term which means Universal Life Energy. Reiki is an all natural, gentle, safe and effective complementary health technique.

The human body is a complex energy system. The energy field within the body communicates with all the cells of the body and with the larger energy field that surrounds us. Whenever the human energy field is disrupted, by illness, injury or stress, an imbalance occurs. This "short circuiting" of the normal energy flow interferes with the individual's inner healing capacity. Reiki energy reestablishes and balances energy flow to enable the person's own intrinsic healing capacity to work effectively.

Reiki is universal energy, and is used for everything. Reiki has been used to treat acute and chronic illness, trauma, pain, anxiety, stress, fatigue, depression. Reiki treats the individual as a collective whole. People who receive Reiki often experience their healing on more than one level because the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual energies are intertwined.

A typical Reiki sessions lasts 30-60 minutes. A safe and nurturing environment is important for Reiki. The client is encouraged to wear comfortable clothing. The individual remains fully clothed, and can either sit or recline on a comfortable surface. Soft music is usually played to enhance the relaxation. The Reiki practitioner will place her hands over the energy centers of the body, and channel energy into them. Some individuals will feel warmth, or tingling, or coolness as the energy moves to the areas where it is needed for healing. Clients often feel relaxed but energized after a Reiki treatment.

Reiki practitioners often practice "distance healing". This means doing Reiki for someone who is not present, someone you cannot put your hands on during a session. Distance healing happens on the mental body level, the conscious mind. In some ways, it is a process of visualization in the meditative state.
